- Is this email checker free?
- Yes. Every check runs inside your browser with no usage limit, and your HTML is never uploaded. Without an account you get the score, the three things worth fixing first, and the structure, link, placeholder and image findings in full. A free account opens the detail in three sections — client support, Outlook and accessibility — and the accessibility one has its own free page linked from the lock if you would rather not sign up. Two things need more than a signup: the SpamAssassin score calls a third-party service on our key so it is rate-limited per account, and applying the auto-fixes is part of a paid plan (new accounts get 14 days of everything).
- What does it actually check?
- Structure and links (doctype, lang, viewport, unsubscribe link, placeholder and dead destinations, target=_blank safety), Gmail 102KB clipping with the exact byte position of the cut, rendering support across 20 client-and-platform combinations from the caniemail dataset, Outlook Word-engine specifics, WCAG 2.1 AA contrast measured from the resolved cascade and then measured again inside a simulated dark-mode inversion, image weight and dimensions, and a screen-reader read-aloud transcript. The report groups all of it by engine; the top of the page names only the three findings that matter most.
- Will it fix the problems for me?
- The mechanical ones, yes — eleven deterministic repairs that only touch attributes and wrappers: adding lang, a viewport meta, rel="noopener", role="presentation" on layout tables, alt="" on spacer images, Outlook DPI and line-height rules, image dimensions. None of them change how your email looks and all are reversible. What it will not do is invent alt text, rewrite your subject line, pick a new colour to fix contrast, or re-encode an image — those need a person, and they stay on the list as findings rather than being quietly counted as fixed.
- How is this different from sending myself a test?
- A test send tells you how the email looked in the one inbox you own. It cannot tell you the byte position where Gmail will clip it, the contrast ratio of a caption after Gmail repaints it dark, which of your CSS declarations Outlook 2016 drops, or that a link still points at your staging host. Those are the answers here — and they arrive in under a second, before you have burned a send.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to check, and not to see your score, your shortlist, your broken links, your placeholders or your image weights. A free account opens the per-finding detail in the client-support, Outlook and accessibility sections, plus the SpamAssassin score. Signing up also carries the email you just pasted into Proofel as a shareable review, so you can put it in front of a client without copying anything.
- Is a perfect score safe to send?
- It means nothing we can detect deterministically is wrong, which is not the same thing. We check content and structure, not your sending reputation, and no findings on the client-support matrix means the caniemail dataset has no recorded failure for the features you used — not that every client will render it identically. We publish exactly where our simulation can be wrong rather than implying it never is.
